Banned Books - Frankenstein

Frankenstein Mary Shelley   (1818)
Surely the most famous novel to be written by a teenager. Banned in South Africa in the 1950’s for “obscenity” and controversial in the US because it depicts the creation of life by one other than God. A wearying read these days, but the (unnamed) monster is an essential archetype. The replicants in Bladerunner pondering the nature of their consciousness are in a direct line from Shelley.
